The American Red Cross provides temporary clothing, food and shelter for 3 days for victims of house fire.They also provide resources coordination for needed resources for individuals who are transient.

Pinehaven Center is a homeless shelter for men, women, and children. Food, shelter, and are provided through Care Management Rehabilitation programs. Also, assistance is provided in achieving independent living. Fayette County residents are accepted. References must be provided to clinical director, for those with substance abuse issues.  Call for availability of shelter.

The Union Mission has various programs to help hurting people such as a residential program for single mothers as well as single mothers-to-be. Here, they provide shelter, food and clothing at no cost to those in need.

By dialing 211, you will be connected with an operator who can help locate government and non-profit agencies in your area that provide food, shelter, child care, heath care, job training, and other services. There is no cost for the call.


Women's Resource Center

The Women's Resource Center provides temporary shelter for battered women and their children. Confidential and no charge for any service provided. Assistance in obtaining domestic violence petitions is also available. WRC provides counseling for abuse victims; parent education; legal assistance; support groups; parenting classes; visitation/exchange program which includes supervised visitation at a center located near the Raleigh County office; and a safe haven for exchange of children in potentially dangerous situations for parental visitation. Supervised visitation and exchanges are usually ordered by a Family Court Judge. Case management services that assist shelter residents with locating housing; items needed to furnish a home and employment assistance also available.

Fayette Hills Unity Apartments provide safe, decent and affordable housing for economically disadvantaged persons with disabilities, the elderly and families throughout West Virginia. Fayette Hills provides an on-site coin-operated laundry mat, social activities, and a multi-purpose room for residents. Those who qualify pay no more than 30% of their income for rent/utilities,after allowing for medical expenses.

Hunter Ridge Unity 1 Apartments provide safe and affordable housing based on 30% of individuals income. 1-3 bedroom units available and a family limit of 6 persons does apply. HUD certificates are accepted, however, are not required.

RCCAA also provides homeless individuals and families with assistance to gain rental housing - Rental Assistance - Utility Assiistance - Security and Utility Deposits - Moving Assistance - Home Finding - Case Management.

Raleigh County Housing Authority (HUD)

Raleigh County Housing Authority assists with renting and/or purchasing affordable housing for low income clients. Applications can be obtained in the HUD office at the above address. It is recommended interested applicants call prior to visiting office to confirm waiting list is open.

Raleigh County Housing Authority also offers public housing apartments. Applicants interested must qualify for a 3 bedroom unit.

*Raleigh County Housing Authority covers 6 counties which include: Fayette, Raleigh, Webster, Nicholas, Braxton and Summers.

Rivermont Family Homes offer affordable housing for families. Complex consists of 47 units that are subsidized. All utilities (with the exception of telephone and cable) are included in the rental fee. Previous landlord references and police record background check are required.
